College of Allied Health Sciences Celebrates 20th Anniversary

The University of Cincinnati (UC) College of Allied Health Sciences (CAHS) is celebrating its 20th Anniversary on Thursday, April 19 with a banquet at the Kingsgate Marriott Conference Center. During the banquet, CAHS will honor its "20 in 20” award winners and reflect on the impact of the college on the university and surrounding community. 

CAHS was officially formed in 1998, becoming UC’s 16th college. The idea arose from a task force that recognized UC had health care disciplines scattered across colleges and saw an opportunity to leverage resources and expertise as well as create an environment encouraging interdisciplinary research and education. Communication Sciences and Disorders, Dietetics, Food and Nutrition, Physical Therapy and Nuclear Medical Technology came together from across the university and relocated to French East to become the fourth Academic Health Center college on the medical campus.

Since becoming a college, the number of undergraduate and graduate programs, both online and on-campus, has continued to grow to meet the needs of the current and future health care environment. In 2010, the School of Social Work joined CAHS as the college’s fifth department.  More recently, the UC athletic training program transitioned into CAHS in 2016 expanding the Rehabilitation Sciences Department and leveraging extensive shared resources and expertise. In 2019, CAHS will take its next significant step by moving into the new Health Sciences Building at the corner of Eden Avenue and Panzeca Way.

"As we reminisce about CAHS’ past accomplishments, it is fitting that we recognize our collective achievements in a big way, and also honor 20 special individuals who have made a significant impact on the college and their professional discipline over the past two decades,” says Tina Whalen, EdD, dean of CAHS. "These 20 in 20 honorees have helped propel the future of many students, faculty and staff in CAHS, and we are thrilled that we have the opportunity to individually recognize each of them.”
