College of Nursing Dean Greer Glazer Wins NLN Award
Greer Glazer, PhD, dean of the University of Cincinnati (UC) College of Nursing, is the recipient of the 2018 National League for Nursing (NLN) Mary Adelaide Nutting Award for Outstanding Leadership in Nursing Education. Glazer will receive the award at the NLN 125th Anniversary Education Summit on Friday, Sept. 14 in Chicago.
Each year, the NLN awards committee accepts nominations from individuals and institutions who contribute to the NLN's mission of promoting excellence in nursing education to build a strong and diverse nursing workforce to advance the health of the nation and the global community. The NLN awardees are selected from a field of nominees by the awards committee consisting of seven members from different institutions in the United States and Canada.
The committee evaluated all nominations, CVs and recommendation letters against the following criteria:
- Leads through scholarly activities.
- Contributes as a leader in nursing education.
- Encourages creative interactions from diverse backgrounds.
- Mentors and serves as role model for junior faculty.
- Publishes scholarly works that advance nursing education knowledge.
- Is a member of the NLN.
An American educator, administrator and author in the field of nursing, Mary Adelaide Nutting is considered the world's first professor of nursing. Founded in 1893 as the American Society of Superintendents of Training Schools for Nurses, the NLN was the first nursing organization in the United States.
Glazer, who was recognized in 2016 by Mometrix Test Preparation as one of the 30 most influential deans of nursing in the United States, was appointed dean of the UC College of Nursing in January 2012. A nationally-recognized leader in nursing education, Glazer has spearheaded the development and implementation of a strategic map aimed to position UC as a leader in the transformation of health care. She has a strong history of developing community, national and international partnerships and securing federal funding for nursing research, scholarship and program implementation.
