UC researchers join nationwide trial of Moderna vaccine
Yahoo News posted a story originated by WCPO-TV, Channel 9 on UC and UC Health joining a nationwide trial of the Moderna vaccine for COVID-19. Carl Fichtenbaum, MD, of the UC College of Medicine Division of Infectious Diseases is the medical director of the trial at UC.
UC is one of 89 sites across the country taking part in the trial which is looking for a wide range of participants from the age of 18 and up, but researchers are trying to ensure that they have a diverse and representative study group here locally.

"We've been reaching out to community leaders in both the Latino and Hispanic communities," Fichtenbaum said. "We've also been reaching out to the African-American/Black community for the kinds of targets we're interested in, which is having about at least 30% of our study be from underrepresented populations so they have a chance to participate."
The first dose in the local study was administed at the UC College of Medicine on August 25, 2020.
