In what was a unique opportunity and achievement for a recent graduate, Celia Klug Weingartner ’18 recently had an opportunity to litigate before the Supreme Court of Ohio in the case In re A.M., Slip Opinion No. 2020-Ohio-5102. For her, the preparation process was fairly intensive, requiring plenty of research, reading, and practicing.

For third-year student Alexa Edwards, the Domestic Violence and Civil Protection Order Clinic proved to be a valuable experience. Her desire to be involved with the clinic stemmed from a passion for helping others. “I studied communication and psychology at the University of Louisville,” she recalls, “and I didn’t exactly know what I wanted to do until after the 2016 election, when I knew I wanted to do something with law.”

For second-year law student Morgan Mitchell, the move to Cincinnati, Ohio, from San Diego, California, was a bit of a transition. However, her experience at the College of Law has made the move worth it, and the Domestic Violence and Civil Protection Order Clinic helped reinforce it.

Her experience at the University of Cincinnati College of Law has provided many opportunities to practice her knowledge and hone her skills; the Domestic Violence and Civil Protection Order Clinic, in particular, gave her a chance to make a real difference with clients.

In her home country of Nigeria, Vanessa Ojo-Igbinoba chose to study law because she found a passion for helping people. In the United States, she chose to continue her studies at the University of Cincinnati College of Law because it would expand her opportunities for learning and gaining experience.

Before attending the University of Cincinnati College of Law, Nawfal Ali Aljabali had already worked to fight for human rights in the Middle East. Finding the work fulfilling, he knew he wanted to continue in this area. Aljabali chose to continue his education at UC Law so he could do more with his law degree, both in the United States and back home in Yemen.

University of Cincinnati College of Law students always find ways to make a difference, and Heather Campbell is no exception. This past summer, the third-year student gained valuable experience as a summer associate at The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland in the Family Law Practice Group. She primarily worked with clients who were seeking divorce or civil protection due to domestic violence.

Jones Center for Race, Gender and Social Justice and by the Robert S. Marx Law Library. The exhibit is meant to commemorate the 19th Amendment.
