Communiversity Offers EMBODIYoga Classes in the New Year

For the first time, EMBODIYoga classes are now available to the University of Cincinnati community as part of the Communiversity program. In this new class,

Introduction to EMBODIYoga: Somatic Principles

, students will get an introduction to yoga as their body remembers it to be: an authentic, natural expression from the embryological and developmental roots of their being. Explore how the intention, relationship, language and practice allow a deepening of the experience and embodiment of yoga.

The course is taught by Becky Morrissey, MA, who is certified by the Yoga Alliance as an ERYT-500 instructor for having completed a 500-hour Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher course and provided more than 2,000 hours of yoga instruction. Morrissey also is a psychotherapist and is certified by the International Association of Yoga Therapists. Morrissey has been a student of Lisa Clark, the founder of EMBODIYoga, for 15 years. As the project coordinator of EMBODIYoga in Cincinnati, Morrissey offers teacher training, workshops and classes in the Cincinnati area. She brought EMBODIYoga to the Cincinnati area in 2013, inspired by the deeper dimension and texture this lens offers to conventional yoga techniques.

“I am excited to offer this somatic yoga course through Communiversity as a way to welcome students who have studied human development, linguistics, dance somatics, theater, biomechanics, somatic anatomy and/or psychology studies to this yoga approach, an exploration of consciousness, embodied anatomy and developmental movement,” Morrissey said.

Introduction to EMBODIYoga: Somatic Principles

will take place on Wednesdays from Jan. 17 to Feb. 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Future Life Now, a holistic center at 4138 Hamilton Ave. in Northside. The course fee is $79. Space is limited to 12 yogis, so register early for best selection.

“Exploring our embryology and dynamic movement principles from the lens of the body systems, such as skeletal, organ and endocrine systems, EMBODIYoga is a re-patterning of our relationship with movement, gravity and body awareness,” Morrissey said.
