Disability Pride T-Shirt Contest

Disability Pride Flag, which includes red, gold, white, blue and green diagonal stripes. The faded black background mourning and rage for victims of ableist violence and abuse. The diagonal Bband cuts across the walls and barriers that separate the disabled from society, also representing light and creativity cutting through the darkness.

Welcome to the UC Disability Pride T-Shirt Design Contest, hosted by Accessibility Resources. This competition is to celebrate Disability Pride at the University of Cincinnati. As part of UC's commitment to inclusivity, we invite all currently enrolled UC students, whether on-campus or online, to participate in this creative initiative. Join us in fostering connections, promoting diversity, and showcasing your artistic talent by designing the first -ever, official UC Disability Pride t-shirt.

  • All submissions must be received by noon on Friday, November 10, 2023.
  • Winners will have their design featured on UC's Disability Pride t-shirt, which will be worn to celebrate UC's Disability Pride event in spring semester 2024.

The UC Disability Pride T-Shirt Design Contest serves several essential purposes:

  1. Highlighting Disability Pride: We want to raise awareness about Disability Pride and showcase the diverse experiences of those within the UC disability community.
  2. Building Connections: The contest seeks to strengthen connections among UC students, faculty, staff, and campus partners within the disability community, emphasizing that "Bearcats Got Your Back" includes everyone.
  3. Promoting Inclusivity: We aim to expand UC's capacity to be disability-inclusive by introducing disability culture to the non-disabled UC community.

What is Disability Pride?

Disability pride is defined as accepting and honoring each person’s uniqueness, and seeing it as a natural and beautiful part of human diversity. Disability pride is an integral part of an inclusive crusade and, furthermore, a direct challenge to systemic ableism and stigmatizing definitions of disability. We encourage you to read more about Disability Pride and check out these resources as you consider your design:

Brand Guidelines and Visual Identity

All submissions must adhere to UC Brand Guidelines and align with the university's visual identity. Some important points to include:

  • You cannot modify any UC logos or images, such as the UC monogram or Bearcat.
  • The c-paw is considered an athletic mark and cannot be used for this shirt.
  • If you use red and black, be sure that you use UC's true red and black colors.

Judging Process

Once we receive your submissions, a committee will review each design to ensure it complies with all content rules. In cases where minor adjustments are required, we may ask you to make updates. Qualified designs will then be presented to our panel of judges for the final decision.

Thank you for joining us to celebrate Disability Pride at the University of Cincinnati. Your creativity can make a meaningful impact, promoting inclusivity and unity within our community. We look forward to seeing your inspiring designs!
