UC to host poet laureate

University of Cincinnati graduate and Cincinnati poet laureate Manuel Iris will return to UC for a poetry reading at the College of Engineering and Applied Science.
Iris will present "Translating Silence/Traducir el Silencio," a bilingual poetry reading from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, at the Engineering Research Center, Room 427.
The presentation is sponsored by UC's Departments of English and of Romance and Arabic Languages and Literatures.
Iris, a teacher at Cincinnati's DePaul Cristo Rey High School, has published six books of poetry and in 2018 was named the poet laureate of Cincinnati.
Iris is the winner of Mexico's National Award of Poetry Merida for his book "Notebook of Dreams." His latest book is titled "Overnight Medley."

University of Cincinnati college is piloting a program to serve alumni of foster and kinship care

In 2025 the Ohio Reach Postsecondary designation was awarded to UC's College of Education, Criminal Justice, Human Services, and Information Technology (CECH) as part of the program's third cohort. The program recognizes and supports higher education institutions that have worked to make their campuses welcoming and accessible for students with a history in foster or kinship care. CECH will run a pilot program called Anchor Point aimed at wide-scale implementation across the campus in Fall 2026.
