Paredes is a composer, music producer and audio post-production specialist whose work spans film, television and commercial music. His credits include original scores for feature films and series distributed on platforms such as Apple TV+ and Prime Video, as well as extensive work in sound design and mixing for film and media. As a composer, he works fluidly across styles, incorporating both modern digital instrumentation and traditional orchestral approaches in his scores.
A GRAMMY voting member of The Recording Academy, Paredes has contributed to over 100 professional music releases as a producer, engineer, mixer and mastering engineer, with projects collectively reaching millions of streams worldwide. His work reflects a broad stylistic range with experience primarily in rock, pop and country music.
For the past seven years, Paredes served as a Course Director and Instructor at Full Sail University, where he taught in both the Film Production MFA and Music Production BS programs. His teaching and mentorship focused on film scoring, sound design, music production, popular music history, music theory and mixing in formats including 5.1, 7.1 and Dolby Atmos.
Prior to his academic career, Paredes founded and led Satellite Music Group, a professional recording studio complex in Houston, Texas, where he produced and engineered a wide range of commercial music and media projects. He also served as Vice President of All About Music, Inc., one of Texas’ largest private music schools, where he developed programs in contemporary music education and directed student performance ensembles.
Paredes holds a Master of Music in composition from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, where he studied with Pierre Jalbert, Karim Al-Zand, Richard Lavenda and Kurt Stallmann, and a Bachelor of Music in composition from Trinity University, where he studied with Timothy Kramer and Justin Merritt.
"J.R. Paredes is a skillful music producer, film post-production audio mixer and editor, audio engineer, and composer," said Jutras. "He has experience in a variety of different mediums and genres, and his work has been featured in films and programs distributed by major streaming platforms like Apple TV+ and Prime Video. Our students will benefit from his expertise, and I am grateful to our search committee chair Jasmine Guo and committee members Kim Pensyl, John Hebbeler, Michael Fiday and Scott Belck for their efforts with this successful search."
