Dr. Tommy Aicher Receives Awards for Outstanding Service and Faculty Excellence

Sport Administration professor recognized for exemplary service

Dr. Tommy Aicher, Associate Professor, and Program Director, Sport Administration was recognized with the School of Human Services Outstanding Service Award for his exceptional contributions made over the past five years, including outstanding leadership and service in the Sport Administration Program, School, and College.

Dr. Aicher became Program Coordinator of the Sport Administration Program during a critical time in the program’s growth. During that time, he led the development and approval of the Master's Degree, chaired searches to bring extraordinary new faculty to the program, and founded the active, successful student group, Society of Sport Leaders.

His substantial leadership and service contributions to the School and College include serving on several School committees, representing the School on the CECH Senate, and serving as President of the Senate. He has provided this remarkable service at UC while maintaining an active research and scholarship programs and serving nationally on professional editorial boards and in professional association appointments. We congratulate Dr. Aicher and appreciate his many contributions and commitment to excellence in all he does!

Dr. Aicher also was recognized this academic year with the CECH Dean’s Award for Faculty Excellence. This year marked the inaugural presentation of this award, and Dr. Aicher was one of two faculties in CECH recognized for his outstanding leadership, research, and service, along with his commitment to his profession, program, the School, and College. Dr. Aicher was presented with both awards at the CECH All College Spring Meeting held on April 26, 2016.

John Kelly would like a word

A 2012 graduate of UC's Master of Education program, John Kelly's career journey has taken a very interesting path. A bookish kid growing up, the author of MashedRadish.com went on to study English in undergraduate school, then, with a plan to become an educator, he pursued and completed graduate work at UC's School of Education. Life had other plans for John though, and he eventually found himself in a VP role at Dictionary.com. Today, however, he's back in front of students and pursuing a full-time career as an English teacher.
