Undergraduate Scholarly Showcase seeks student presenters

Students from across the University of Cincinnati will share the results of their scholarly work at the annual Undergraduate Scholarly Showcase on Monday, April 22, in Tangeman University Center.

All undergraduates who are doing research or scholarly work are encouraged to participate.

Students from all disciplines are encouraged to present, whether their work is part of a course, internship, co-op or any other research experience. Any research project — from a medical breakthrough to a product innovation in room furnishings — has the potential to impact the world today. As such, projects will be organized for display based on four broad themes: social systems, natural systems, new frontiers, and health and body.

Students can choose one of four presentation formats:

  • Traditional poster
  • An "unposter” in which students draw their facts and figures as they explain their work
  • Three-minute speech without a Q&A
  • 12-minute speech with a Q&A

Professors, advisors, administrators, grad students and potential employers will judge the presentations. Undergraduates will also evaluate each other’s work.

Students can get help preparing their presentations in Open Feedback Sessions hosted by UC's Division of Experience-Based Learning and Career Education. Students will receive guidance on how to tell their research story and how to craft an effective presentation for a general audience.

Past participants have used what they learned to deliver future presentations at professional conferences. Overall, students find the experience valuable for their professional and personal growth. They consistently report that the experience builds their confidence and improves their speaking skills.
