2nd UC Day of Giving a success
Generosity increases donations by 43 percent
The second annual University of Cincinnati Day of Giving on April 2, 2019 was an urgency campaign encouraging alumni, donors, students, faculty and staff to support what’s next for the University of Cincinnati and UC Health. Thanks to the generosity of donors and more than 2,100 gifts, the UC Foundation raised more than $415,000 for 321 funds — a 43-percent increase in dollars raised from the inaugural UC Day of Giving in 2018. More than 250 of the participants were first-time donors.
“I marvel each and every day at the spirit of philanthropy that is not only thriving in the UC and UC Health communities, but growing,” said UC Foundation President Peter Landgren. “It is a unison passion to transform lives that will keep us innovating and building a better tomorrow.”
There were many success stories from the day, including:
- The IvaDean Medical Student Scholarship Fund received 85 gifts totaling $18,671.90. Thanks to a $2,500 match from the College of Medicine Alumni Executive Council, a total of $21,171.90 was raised. The fund helps the College of Medicine attract top students through scholarships.
- The Bearcat Bands launched a bold campaign on UC Day of Giving aimed at elevating the band’s musical presence on campus. The newly established Boldly Bearcat Bands Instrument Fund received 78 gifts. Thanks in part to a $5,000 match from Randall Smith ’77, $14,746 was raised to purchase and maintain new instruments. The long-term goal of this fund is to eliminate the cost of instruments for students.
- The new Arts and Sciences Emergency Support Fund received 36 gifts totaling $6,378. The fund received a $5,000 match from an anonymous donor, bringing the total to $11,378 raised. This new fund is used to assist students with short-term financial needs including, but not limited to, tutoring, university fees, scholarships, modest tuition assistance, food and bus passes.
Students were part of the fun at UC Day of Givnig at Tangeman University Center.
