U.S. News & World Report: A patient's guide to norovirus
UC expert provides risk factors of contracting norovirus
Carl Fichtenbaum, MD, professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases in the Department of Internal Medicine at the UC College of Medicine was featured in an article in U.S. News & World Report on norovirus. Fichtenbaum provided five risk factors for norovirus, a virus that causes nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. They include:
- eating contaminated food,
- drinking contaminated water,
- contact with a person who's infected with norovirus,
- having a serious medical condition, like cancer, that compromises your immune system
- and spending time with large numbers of people in a confined space, such as in a nursing home, on a cruise ship, in a hotel or at a resort.
