C-SPAN: David Stradling on the Cuyahoga River fire of 1969
David Stradling, a professor of history at the University of Cincinnati and co-author of "Where the River Burned: Carl Stokes and the Struggle to Save Cleveland," talked to C-SPAN Sunday about the 50th anniversary of the Cuyahoga River fire that helped lead to the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency.
Stradling, who co-wrote the 2015 book with his brother Richard Stradling, a journalist, discusses the June 22, 1969, fire, which gained international attention during the one-hour program. The subsequent outcry led to major legislative wins, including the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act, and the creation of the EPA.

As a kid, at the age of 10, Marty Schiff’s dad gave him a Kodak Brownie movie camera, and that led to a lifetime of creating stories on film. So later he did, with $200 in his pocket, and began a career that has spanned acting, directing, producing—pretty much everything with the exception of costumes (“I’m not really good with a sewing machine,” he says).
