UC Alert Follow-Up
Oct. 30, 2019
Dear UC Community,
Earlier today, an employee received an anonymous bomb threat for Tangeman University Center. The employee called the UC Communications Center, where dispatchers immediately sent police to the building. Upon their arrival, officers interviewed the employee who received the call. Based on the information available, officers were unable to discredit the threat.
The building was evacuated, and officers and K9 teams checked the building for potential explosives. An emergency message was sent to the entire University community, using the Rave Alert system, asking the community to evacuate the building and avoid the area. Several K9 teams were on campus training at the time, allowing us to quickly check the building. It was determined there was no threat to campus. A follow-up message was sent notifying the UC community that the building was safe to re-enter. UCPD is investigating the source of the false threat.
Sincerely,
James L. Whalen
Director, Public Safety
