New year to work on your wellness with Be Well UC
Build into self and get rewarded for it – up to $300 and more
Did you know you can be rewarded for working on your well-being and investing in yourself? Earn up to $300 every calendar year (Jan. 1-Dec. 31) with Be Well UC, the university’s employee wellness program. Faculty and staff enrolled in the UC Anthem medical plans are eligible for these cash incentives, and all are welcome to join in on the various educational programming, challenges, health coaching and more.
New Portal has Launched
Did you know the updated Alyfe portal launched earlier this month? The Be well UC team is excited for about the new portal’s enhancements.
Get Started Today
- Alyfe sent an email to all eligible faculty and staff on Jan. 6 about the launch with quick directions to get started. Check your “other” inbox or junk folders as it may have ended up there. There have been questions about if this was a legitimate email, and it is!
- Visit the Alyfe portal and select the “Sign Up” button. Follow the quick registration instructions. Each eligible faculty and staff will need to create a new account, regardless if they have logged in last year or in previous years.
- The Portal User Guide is a resourceful tool that outlines how to get started.

Improvements with the Portal
Check out the features that have been upgraded this year to serve your well-being goals even better:
- A comprehensive mobile app that allows you to track on the go.
- Engagement Bonus status easier to track and any activities logged will count towards this perk.
- Invite co-workers to complete Buddy Challenges.
- Setting and tracking goals now connected.
- New and shorter Well-Being Workshop topics: Take about one hour to complete.
- Shorter Health Assessment: about five to seven questions.

- Stay in the wellness know with the monthly email listserv for announcements, updates and more. Email wellness@uc.edu to be added.
- The YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program Cohort 5 is launching in February. The next cohort will start the week of Feb. 10 and only 15 spots are open. If you are interested in joining this next group, please email wellness@uc.edu. The location and time are being finalized. Details on the Diabetes Resources and Services page. This is a 12-month lifestyle program to help adults at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes adopt and maintain healthy lifestyles. Employees on the UC Anthem medical plan are eligible and must meet the qualifications. NO COST ($429 value), FREE yearlong YMCA membership ($750 value) and unlimited support (priceless).
- Looking to lessen your use of tobacco or even quit? Tobacco Free UC offers free cessation resources, like the QuitLogix quitline, in-person Freshstart sessions, the Quit Center with Impact Solutions and more.
- The first challenge of 2020 is coming soon. From Feb. 3-March 20, join the Save Up financial wellness challenge and earn 25 points. The Save Up challenge will be hosted on our new portal. Each week of the challenge will include various activities that guide you through an important part of financial wellness, including topics like budgeting, spending, living within your means, investing and retirement. All tracking will be done in the Alyfe portal.
- Save the date for the fourth annual Invest in Yourself event. Mark Thursday, Feb. 20 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at TUC on the 4th floor on your calendars. All faculty and staff are welcome. All eligible employees will earn 25 points for attending and the first 150 will receive a prize. Join us for 45-minute sessions, drop in activities and more. Want to volunteer? Email wellness@uc.edu.
- Join an online, live and on-demand educational sessions. Check out the various options on the Events page. Drop in wellness sessions to answer your questions about Be Well UC and the portal, 20-minute Yoga As You Are, Learn It Lives, Choose Your Own Challenges and more.

Local couple uses royalties from children's books to give gifts to kids in need

A local couple has found a unique way to give back to those in need this holiday season. Vic and Laura Troha wrote two children's books together, and this year, they are using the proceeds to buy Christmas gifts for Hamilton County foster kids. The couple are both graduates of the University of Cincinnati's College of Allied Health Sciences and met the day they graduated.
