CAHS Celebrates Grand Opening of Health Sciences Building

Hundreds of College of Allied Health Sciences (CAHS) alumni, faculty, staff and students gathered on Sept. 12 to celebrate the completion of the Health Sciences Building, the new home for the college on the University of Cincinnati’s medical campus.

Festivities began with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting on Eden Commons, a new green space in front of the building adorned with the new Albert Paley sculpture “Progression,” which was dedicated by the Ohio Arts Council in August.

Alumni and guests then toured the $61 million, state-of-the-art building notable for its floor-to-ceiling windows, a stark contrast from CAHS’s former home. Featured spaces during tours included the Advanced Medical Imaging Technology Lab, the Nutrition Sciences Lab, the Social Work Interview Room, and the Speech & Hearing Clinic.

Special guests were invited to stay for a program and private reception to celebrate the philanthropy of CAHS donors and partners. Emceed by Dean Tina Whalen, the program included UC President Neville Pinto, UC Health President and CEO Richard Lofgren, UC Foundation President Peter Landgren, and donor & alumna Terri Hollenkamp, and student scholarship recipient Jamie VanDewerker.

“The ribbon-cutting celebration for the Health Sciences Building was a wonderful tribute to all those who spent countless time and effort over the past many years to make this new building a reality,” said Dean Whalen. “We are beyond grateful.”
