UC students recognized for achievement in international work experience
Each spring, the University of Cincinnati's Division of Experience-Based Learning and Career Education (ELCE) honors students in international work experience programs.
Working outside the U.S. broadens students’ horizons, making them more adept in a global society. ELCE’ s international programs consist of internships, a groundbreaking cooperative education program, faculty-led study tours, and self-created independent experiences.
The following students have demonstrated outstanding achievement in international experience-based learning programs in 2019-2020. Their stories help to illustrate why the University of Cincinnati is the number one public university for co-ops and internships.
Sierra Zwenger, International Co-op Program
An aerospace engineering major, Sierra Zwenger worked as a co-op in the Advanced Additive Technology Program at GE Global Research in Munich, Germany. To assist in a redesign effort, she traveled to Poland to brainstorm potential airflow pattern changes. She simulated feasible proposals and reported results. She created the first ANSYS Workbench model capable of simultaneously analyzing thermal and mechanical stresses as well as optimizing the topology of the part.
After graduation, Sierra hopes to work with a renewable energy firm that has locations in Germany and the U.S.
Emily McDonough, International Experience Program

Marketing major Emily McDonough participated in The London Experience in Fall 2019, working for international beauty brand Revlon. As Digital Engagement Intern, Emily produced monthly social media content plans for Revlon UK, Elizabeth Arden UK and Mitchum UK. She produced bundle strategies for Black Friday on Amazon and created videos for company-wide quarterly meetings.
Faculty and staff in Experience-Based Learning and Career Education facilitate real-world work experiences for students, teach students to prepare for their professional lives, and provide career services to students and alumni. At the same time, we connect employers and external partners with the talent they seek in a variety of arrangements both inside and outside the classroom.
Looking Ahead
UC has temporarily suspended international travel in compliance with health and safety guidelines issued by the U.S. State Department and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
