For a dedicated educator like Gregory Bucks, accolades from his students are perhaps the most treasured honor.

Bucks, associate professor educator and associate department head in the Department of Engineering Education at the University of Cincinnati, has earned high praise from UC students. On the heels of earning Professor of the Semester in the fall of 2019, Bucks was named Professor of the Year for the 2019-20 academic year. The awards, based on student votes, come from UC’s College of Engineering and Applied Science Tribunal, the engineering student government group.

“While I have received other awards for my teaching over the years, it has always been the feedback that I get from my students that motivates me. That makes receiving an award like this, which is voted on by the students, all that more meaningful,” Bucks said.

Bucks joined UC in 2012. He researches how engineering students learn and has helped develop and evolve the courses for first-year engineering students at UC. He earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the Pennsylvania State University and a master’s from Purdue University. He has a Ph.D. from Purdue in engineering education. Bucks is an executive board member of the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE) North Central Section and the ASEE First-Year Programs Division.
