The British Journal of Photography's Portrait of Humanity is an annual international award inviting photographers to share work that captures the many faces of humanity, and to document the universal expressions of life.

The 2020 edition features the work of University of Cincinnati associate professor Maureen France.
France is an associate professor in UC's College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning. Her black-and-white photograph "Muscle Men in Cincinnati, Ohio" made the 2020 Portrait of Humanity shortlist.
"This photo was taken at a summer festival on the banks of the Ohio River," France told The Guardian. "They brought in tons of sand to create a “beach” on the Ohio." Read more in The Guardian and CNN.
