#BearcatsSaveLives: Hoxworth kicks off school year with UC all campus blood drive

This school year looks a little different during the COVID-19 pandemic, but Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati still needs Bearcats to roll up their sleeves during the University of Cincinnati all-campus blood drive.

Students, faculty, staff and fans of UC are encouraged to donate blood, platelets, or plasma during the drive in exchange for a $10 e-gift card and a free day pass from Red Bike.

The blood drive will be taking place on McMicken Commons from Monday, Sept. 21 through Friday, Sept. 25, with donor buses parked onsite from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“The UC Campus definitely looks different this year, due to COVID-19,” said Jackie Marschall, spokesperson for Hoxworth. “But the need for blood doesn’t take a break, even for a pandemic. We’re thrilled that we are still able to hold blood drive at UC with extra safety precautions in place, and hope that the lifesaving Bearcats will come save lives with Hoxworth.”

Hoxworth will be hosting additional blood drives at UC Clermont on Monday, Sept. 21 and at UC Blue Ash on Wednesday, Sept. 23.

Marschall mentioned that Hoxworth needs to collect 400 units of blood and 50 units of platelets a day to fulfill the needs of local hospitals.

Appointments are encouraged to maintain proper social distancing, and masks are required of all donors. To schedule an appointment at any of the University of Cincinnati drives, visit www.hoxworth.org/uc or call 513-451-0910.
