CCM Musical Theatre's annual "Jam Band" is part of a class recital/”jam” that features sophomore, junior and senior Musical Theatre majors performing popular music hits backed by a band of CCM student instrumentalists and a student sound engineer. Students work with faculty and a music directing student all year to prepare covers and mashups of hit songs from the worlds of rock, RnB, pop and more. Jam Band was started to help students develop the commercial music skills that are required in today's Musical Theatre industry — things like mic technique, creating new song arrangements, writing lead sheets, working with instrumentalists and performing a wide range of vocal styles.
Last year's CCM Jam Band event lead to a viral moment for CCM Musical Theatre student Erin Morton, whose performance of Radiohead's Creep was watched by millions of people online; read more. After her viral performance, Morton landed the role of Martha Dunnstock in Heathers the Musical at New World Stages and was featured on the Tamron Hall Show.
