Cincinnati Law students beat overall state bar average
UC students surpass overall statewide average
The results of the October 2020 Ohio Bar Exam released Monday show the University of Cincinnati College of Law recording an overall passage rate of 80%, beating the statewide overall passing rate of 77.4%.
“Congratulations to our Cincinnati Law graduates who successfully passed the bar and will now become licensed attorneys,” said Verna L. Williams, Dean and Nippert Professor of Law. “In any given year, passing the bar exam is not an easy feat. This year, the added stress of navigating a global pandemic, the test postponement, and introduction of a new online format made doing so all the more difficult. The persistence and determination you have shown through these challenges will serve you well in your careers. We wish you all the best.”
The passage rate for Cincinnati Law’s first-time takers was 85%, slightly below the state’s average of 85.3%. Over 958 aspiring attorneys from across the state and the country took the October exam.
In addition, there were 17 out-of-state bar exam takers. For the five out-of-state jurisdictions that have released their outcomes, the Class of 2020 recorded an 80% pass rate; outcome results are pending from six states. Graduates earned a 100% pass rates in Indiana, Colorado, Maine and Michigan.
Applicants who successfully passed the examination and satisfied all of the Supreme Court’s requirements for admission will be invited to take the attorney oath of office on Dec. 14, 2020 at 10 a.m. using remote technology.
