Lindner announces innovative partnership with CPS high school
New collaboration to provide university-level business coursework for Withrow University High School
The University of Cincinnati’s Carl H. Lindner College of Business and the Withrow University High School of Business have established the Withrow University High School of Business Pathway to Lindner College of Business program, which will prepare Withrow students for higher education — more specifically in business areas of study.
Lindner will supply funding, faculty, student support and other services to encourage students to complete College Credit Plus business courses. Withrow, a 7-12 school in the Cincinnati Public Schools (CPS) district, will furnish the partnership by facilitating collaboration with UC faculty, interaction between UC students and Withrow students, and more.
“Withrow is a tremendous partner given our shared commitment to developing future business leaders,” said Marianne Lewis, PhD, Lindner dean and professor of management. “Together, we are innovating, building an energizing and supportive pathway from Cincinnati Public Schools to the Lindner College of Business. From entrepreneurship to accounting, students will explore career possibilities and fuel their potential.”

Withrow Principal Jerron Gray is looking forward to laying a foundation for a partnership he hopes will last for “many, many years to come.”
“Lindner and their team, from the dean all the way down, are very engaged, very committed and very serious about this partnership,” Gray said, “and very serious about seeing our students be successful — not just to get in (to Lindner), but to matriculate through and be successful.”
The five Lindner courses — available at no cost through the State of Ohio College Credit Plus (CCP) program — that Withrow students will have access to are Accounting 2081: Financial Accounting; Economics 1001: Introduction to Microeconomics; Entrepreneurship 2001: Essentials of Entrepreneurship; English 1001: English Composition; and Math 1021: College Algebra.
In advance of the partnership, Withrow students made two visits to Lindner this past fall. The first visit included around 10 students sitting in on a class taught by Accounting Professor Aaron Pennington, touring Lindner Hall and the UC campus, chatting with Business Fellows and engaging in a Q&A session with members of the Lindner admissions team.
Withrow students eligible for the Pathway program can earn free college credit.
Student queries ranged from how the UC admissions team sorts through applications and best approaches to college application essays to note-taking in college classes.
The second visit to Lindner involved 53 Withrow students who experienced a tour of Lindner and the UC campus, an information session, a Business Fellows panel, and a Holland Code major exploration session.
Gray said Withrow students have expressed strong interest in the possibility of attending Lindner and UC.
“This is an exciting opportunity for our students that positions them for opportunities within business,” Gray said. “It’s positioning them to be prepared for the workforce. It’s positioning them in laying a foundation for them to have the opportunity to continue their academic development post high school.”
