What I love about my UC nursing clinicals and clubs
I'm enjoying the hands-on learning and extracurriculars offered to me as a UC nursing student

I am very passionate about all the opportunities that have come along during my time in UC's nursing program.
One thing I am really loving is the hands-on approach, especially in our labs and clinical sites. So far in labs, I have learned so much from inserting a NG (nasogastric) tube, taking vitals, catheter care, wound care and even practicing injection sites. I enjoy learning about all the different nursing techniques and practicing these skills every opportunity I get.
My first day of clinicals
I recently had my first clinical experience, and it was so exciting to be in the hospital! In the clinical setting, I have been able to change patient beds, perform a bed bath, listen to lung and heart sounds, take vitals, etc. I really appreciate how engaged nurses are with each patient's care and it is very interesting to see all the different patient cases. My favorite thing about the clinical experience so far is getting to meet each patient and being up to date with their case/what they need.
Within UC College of Nursing, I am part of a few clubs, including AMBITION and Student Nurses Association (SNA), and I have a position as a college ambassador, which I am really loving as well. These are truly great ways to be involved within the nursing program, and I have learned some great leadership skills along the way.
Across UC, I also try to stay involved in a few clubs by attending events, including UC’s African American Cultural and Research Center (AACRC) and the UC African Student Association (UCASA). These organizations give me a way to de-stress from nursing and have a really fun time outside of class work. I also enjoy going to events with friends that the Programs and Activities Council (PAC) holds or to some sports events as other forms of social activity.
Overall, I am really enjoying my time here at UC and making the most of the nursing program!
