UC Clermont to host Allied Health Career Fair May 19
College offers pathways to high demand health care roles
Students and prospective students are invited to explore the numerous careers available in health care during UC Clermont’s free Allied Health Career Fair Thursday, May 19, from 4-6 p.m.
Attendees can learn about the college’s Allied Health programs, take a campus tour and attend presentations for:
- Surgical Technology
- Physical Therapist Assistant
- Respiratory Therapy
- Medical Assisting
- Public Health
- Healthcare Leadership (bachelor’s degree)
Admissions representatives will be on hand to help students start the application process, and financial aid representatives will be available to answer questions. The $50 application fee will be waived for anyone who applies that evening.
Many students assume becoming a doctor or nurse is the only viable career pathway in health care, said Associate Professor Brenda Poynter, program director for surgical technology. In reality, she said, the field is filled with a myriad of options, many accessible after a two-year associate degree.
The average starting salary for graduates from UC Clermont’s Allied Health programs is $45,000. The college has strong relationships with hospitals and other health care sites throughout the region, where students complete hands-on clinical training as part of their education.
“Our graduates are in high demand,” said Poynter, pointing out a 100% job offer rate for the college’s surgical technology program. Surgical technologists work alongside surgeons, first assistants, anesthesiologists and circulating nurses in the operating room. “All my graduating students this spring have job offers from clinical sites.”
