Gordon Gillespie named interim dean of UC College of Nursing

“Anyone who has ever had the opportunity to interact with Gordon can understand why I’m so pleased to have a professional like him stepping into this role at the college.” says Denise Gormley, PhD, the college’s interim dean who is retiring. “Gordon owns both a research and practice background and has shown strong leadership skills throughout his time at UC, I’m excited to watch him take the college further during this assignment.”

In addition to several national and international recognitions, in 2012 Gillespie was one of 90 professionals in the country to be named a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Nurse Faculty Scholar, a program that allowed him to undergo three years of professional development focused on executive leadership. From 2018-2020, he served as a member of the international Board of Directors for the Emergency Nurses Association and currently serves as a Trustee to the Emergency Nurses Association Foundation.

Gillespie’s scholarship focuses on workplace violence against health care workers and has been cited by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration, U.S. Government Accountability Office and practitioners and researchers across six continents.

“I look forward to serving as the interim dean for the next two years while continuing to foster an inclusive environment for faculty, staff and students to thrive,” Gillespie says.

The college plans to begin a nationwide search for its next dean in fall 2023.
