WVXU: Ron DeSantis 2024 run, the debt ceiling divide and more

UC political scientist David Niven on full hour of Cincinnati Edition

Host of WVXU’ Cincinnati Edition Lucy May interviews UC political scientist David Niven, an associate professor in the UC School of Public and International Affairs, and Ken Rudin, political journalist, for a full hour on all things political. The topics discussed are Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ launch into the 2024 presidential campaign, Supreme Court ethics, Roe v Wade, the debt ceiling and an amendment under consideration that would make it more difficult to amend the Ohio constitution.

“Clearly the polls are in Trump’s camp right now…people don’t tend to support Donald Trump lightly,” Niven says during the discussion. Niven says that the great number of candidates for the GOP nomination dilutes the party and DeSantis will go trough what all the other GOP opponents went through in 2016.

“Trump has proven to be a very slippery opponent to deal with” considering the abnormalities of the way Trump runs, says Niven.

Niven says when you divide GOP voters between a large field you really do dilute any alternate to Trump.
