Hoxworth celebrates World Blood Donor Day on June 14
Donors receive exclusive Reds jersey gift and visit from Gapper, team’s mascot
Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati, is inviting the greater Cincinnati community to celebrate World Blood Donor Day on Wednesday, June 14, by making a lifesaving blood donation!
To celebrate and thank blood donors, those who donate at any of Hoxworth’s seven Neighborhood Donor Centers on World Blood Donor Day (June 14) will receive an exclusive Cincinnati Reds “Donor” Jersey! Additionally, Hoxworth will have mascot appearances from the Cincinnati Reds at Hoxworth Central from 1p.m. – 3p.m. and will be serving their signature fresh baked cookies and offering behind the scenes tours of Hoxworth labs.
“Blood donors are true heroes in our community,” said José Cancelas, MD, PhD, director of Hoxworth Blood Center. “We want to thank all of our amazing donors this World Blood Donor Day and encourage new donors to join our lifesaving mission in Saving Lives Close to home.”
World Blood Donor Day, recognized annually on June 14, serves to raise awareness of the need for safe blood products and to thank voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their lifesaving donations
Blood banks across the nation typically see a rise in blood usage over the summer months. Hoxworth is the sole supplier of blood products to more than 30 hospitals in the Tri-State area and needs at least 450 donors daily to meet the demand of those hospitals.
Hoxworth’s exclusive Cincinnati Reds replica jersey will be available through June 23 at all Hoxworth Neighborhood Donor Center’s for those who may not be able to donate on June 14. Individuals can schedule their lifesaving donation at hoxworth.org or by calling 513-451-0910.
