WLWT: UC welcomes students for orientation
Record number of students expected for the fall semester
Jack Miner, vice provost for enrollment management at UC, spoke with WLWT-Channel 5 about efforts to welcome incoming students to the university as part of summer orientation. UC expects to enroll its largest number of students ever with between 49,000 and 50,000 students expected to enroll.
Orientation sessions are in their second week and provide the chance for incoming students to learn what it means to be a Bearcat through meeting with fellow students in small break-out sessions, taking tours of the campus and meeting with staff and faculty in their college of choice during the daylong visit. Parents also meet with UC officials to ask questions about how they can support incoming students.
There were about 800 individuals on campus Thursday as part of orientation - that’s students and their family members. They started in Nippert Stadium meeting Student Orientation Leaders, the Bearcat and learning ‘Down the Drive.’ At the end of the day students got a chance to win one of four season football tickets.
“This is the day they get to learn UC traditions,” Miner told WLWT. “This is the day they really get to see themselves on campus.”
