WLWT 5: UC raises awareness for National Food Bank Day
Support UC students with a gift to the UC Bearcats Pantry & Resource Center
Did you know UC is home to the Bearcats Pantry & Resource Center with locations at the Clifton Campus, UC Clermont and UC Blue Ash? Friday, Sept. 1 is National Food Bank Day, and it is an opportunity to immediately impact the Bearcat community.
Over 14,000 Bearcats face food and other insecurities. That’s 14,000 exceptional individuals that must balance concern about their next meal with staying focused on their academics to be on track to graduate from UC.
Since 2016, the Bearcats Pantry & Resource Center has worked to lower that sobering number. In seven years, it has grown from a tiny operation housed in a closet-sized space on campus to a dedicated center in Stratford Heights that provides nutritional food to students in need — and much more. From cultivating its own garden and career closet, to its Family First Program that assists UC community members with children, the Bearcats Pantry & Resource Center ensures our students have whatever they need to give it all they’ve got.
Meredith Stutz of WLWT, spoke to student Izzy Adams, A&S, COM ’25, and Daniel Cummins, associate dean of students, about the need at UC.
“I've learned that we're able to alleviate food insecurities and other different insecurities that students may be facing," Adams, a Bearcats Pantry student volunteer said. "And it allows students to just be students, which is what you should be able to do at college. It allows the support that our center provides. It allows students to thrive. So I think it's really exciting to be able to be a part of that."
