UC’s Hoxworth Blood Center and the Bearcats team up to tackle the need for blood in greater Cincinnati
Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati, and the UC Bearcats are teaming up to tackle the need for blood in the greater Cincinnati community.
All blood and platelet donors who donate at any of Hoxworth’s seven Neighborhood Donor Centers and select mobile blood drives between September 1 - 30 will receive a limited-edition UC Bearcats zip-up hoodie.
"We are thrilled to team up with our UC Bearcats to give back to the community and create a powerful wave of generosity among our Bearcat family,” says David Oh, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Hoxworth Blood Center. “By joining forces, we not only bolster the local blood supply but also foster a culture of compassion and solidarity among students, faculty, and our community at large.”
In 1944, Hoxworth Blood Center was established as an integral part of the University of Cincinnati, a result of collaborative efforts by UC College of Medicine's Dean Stanley Dorst and Dr. Paul Hoxworth, the center's founder. They successfully partnered with the University of Cincinnati’s President Raymond Walters and became the only blood center in the nation to be sponsored a university. Hoxworth Blood Center was established in 1938 as the second-oldest blood bank in the country and currently holds the distinction of being the oldest operating blood bank and will be celebrating its 85th anniversary this December.
Additionally, Hoxworth Blood Center will be hosting the UC All-Campus Blood Drive from September 19-22 with donation opportunities on UC’s main campus, Clermont campus, Blue Ash campus, and Medical campus.
Hoxworth’s seven Neighborhood Donor Centers are located in Anderson, Blue Ash, Central (Clifton), Ft. Mitchell, North (Mason), Tri-County, and West.
Hoxworth’s Anderson, Blue Ash, Ft. Mitchell, North, and West locations will be open on Labor Day, Monday, September 4 to support local patients with the blood products they need.
Appointments are highly encouraged. Individuals can be lifesaving Bearcats and schedule their donation at hoxworth.org/uc or call 513-451-0910.
