Lindner welcomes new assistant dean of Career Services

Sandra English brings award-winning cooperative education experience

The Carl H. Lindner College of Business has recruited Sandra English, JD, MPA, as its new assistant dean of Lindner Career Services. English will provide leadership and direction in support of Lindner’s cooperative education mission and goals.

Career Services connects Lindner students with top employer talent, ensuring that students are empowered to identify and attain rewarding careers. English will manage the Employer Advisory Council — comprised of 20 employer partners who provide input on industry trends, as well as hiring and recruiting practices — while also assisting with the preparation and revision of the college’s academic program plans.

“This is an exciting time to join Lindner,” English said. “I look forward to assisting the college with becoming recognized as the leading co-op business school. We have a great team that will connect our students with top employers.”

English was previously the assistant dean of career services and professional development for North Carolina Central University’s School of Law, where she supported law students and graduates in their professional development goals. At North Carolina Central, English oversaw a graduation employment rate north of 80% and helped secure more than $100,000 in law firm scholarships.

Previously, English worked at Cleveland State University’s Washkewicz College of Engineering for nine years, where she was senior manager for the Center for Engineering’s Experiential Learning office. There, English advanced cooperative education concepts and best practices to students, faculty and employers.

English is also the recipient of numerous awards acknowledging her excellence as a career services professional, including the Ohio Cooperative Education Association’s Co-op Educator of the Year and the Alvah K. Borman Award for Outstanding Service to Cooperative Education, given by the American Society for Engineering Education’s Cooperative & Experiential Education Division.

“Sandra’s diverse leadership experience in law and engineering makes her particularly well suited for driving innovation in universal co-op and identifying new possibilities for experiential education at Lindner,” said Jaime Windeler, PhD, associate dean of undergraduate programs & student experience, and associate professor of operations, information systems, and business analytics. “We could not be more excited to have her leading our award-winning career services team.”

The onset of the recent fall semester kicked off Lindner’s new universal co-op program. Once fully realized, all Lindner students will be required to complete a baseline of two co-ops, with the minimum number of experiences needed depending on the individual student’s circumstances.

“With UC being the birthplace of co-op, it is in our DNA. Requiring co-op for Lindner students will ensure student success in experiential education,” English said. “Our employer partners are also valued stakeholders in the co-op process, and we will develop our partnerships so that Lindner can be a robust talent pool for the workforce.”
