Nadia Ibrahim-Taney recognized for scholarly work in diversity and inclusion

CCPS faculty receives prestigious Society for Experiential Education Award

Nadia Ibrahim-Taney, assistant professor in the College of Cooperative Education and Professional Studies, was honored to receive the Society for Experiential Education Diversity & Inclusion Scholarship in Orlando, Florida in September.

This award goes to a recipient with a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The award seeks to improve access to premier professional development and increase the involvement of diverse experiential educators in Society for Experiential Education committees, initiatives, and leadership opportunities.

Chris Cooper, College of Cooperative Education and Professional Studies interim unit head and professor, nominated Ibrahim-Taney for the award. “Nadia has been a leader in the diversity, equity, and inclusion space since she started her career at UC and remains a safe space and resource for many in the Bearcat community. As a colleague, I have witnessed her exceptional leadership and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of her work.”

Professor Ibrahim-Taney’s current scholarly work is focused on exploring neurodiversity at work including the industry business case for intentionally building neurodiverse workforces, best practices for executing robust inclusive hiring tactics, and techniques and industry-driven case studies of successful employers who have built environments where neurodiverse employees thrive.

Earlier this year, Ibrahim-Taney received the McFarlan Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award in recognition of her scholarly work in the field of diversity, during an internal conference hosted by the College of Cooperative Education and Professional Studies.  

Erik Alanson, interim unit head and professor, nominated Ibrahim-Taney for the award. “Through Nadia's leadership, she has passionately provided in-person support, virtual education, as well as scholarly research content related to neurodiverse student populations,” said Alanson. “I believe that our college is much stronger in our overall approach to student support because of her efforts.”

Outside of her role in the College of Cooperative Education and Professional Studies, Ibrahim-Taney is particularly proud to serve as the faculty co-chair of the LGBTQ+ Faculty & Staff Association at UC. In this work, she is responsible for leading and managing a board of six faculty and staff members, working alongside the provost office to develop and retain LGBTQ+ faculty and staff. In her tenure at UC, she has also served as the Pride at Lindner Student Organization Advisor, where she is proud of the visibility, representation, community and support she has been able to provide in mentoring and leading student leaders.

We are pleased to recognize assistant professor Ibrahim-Taney for her scholarly success in diversity, equity, and inclusion as recognized by the Society for Experiential Education and here at UC.
