Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati is honoring MLK’s spirit of service by joining the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center for the Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day blood drive with support from Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Alpha PHI Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, and the MLK Coalition.

The blood drive will be held at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center (4th floor) located at 50 East Freedom Way on Monday, January 15 from 11am to 5pm. All donors will receive a free warm winter quarter-zip fleece pullover as a thank you gift for providing lifesaving blood for local patients. 

"We celebrate the King Legacy by giving the gift of life during this birthday week each year, embodying the spirit of compassion and service,” says Michael Davis, co-chair of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Blood Drive. “We urge your support to our efforts and donate blood to serve our greater Cincinnati community."

For those unable to make the blood drive, Hoxworth is hosting an MLK Week of Giving at Hoxworth’s seven Neighborhood Donor Centers from Monday, January 15 – Sunday, January 21. All donors who give blood or platelets at Hoxworth Anderson, Blue Ash, Ft Mitchell, Clifton (Central), West Chester (North), Tri-county, or Western Hills (West) donor centers will receive a free quarter-zip fleece pullover. Be sure to mention the Annual MLK Blood Drive or Group Code NUR when you donate.

January also marks National Blood Donor Month, which recognizes and celebrates the commitment of those who donate blood regularly and brings awareness to the constant need for blood donors.

Appointments for blood donation are strongly encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome as schedules allow. Donors can schedule appointments by calling (513) 451-0910 or by scheduling online below.

UC Foundation Board of Trustees announces seven new members

The University of Cincinnati Foundation is proud to announce that seven dedicated community members are joining its board of trustees. Ray Brooks, CEAS ’83; Chris Carper, A&S ’93; Tim Giglio, Bus ’84; Nandita Jena, A&S '03, Bus '03 and Chris Lewis, MD, Med ’00 will begin their term in October 2026. In addition to this esteemed group, two new student trustees, Case Trokhan, Med ’26 and Joseph Verry, Med ’30 are joining the board.
