UC hosts talk on applying geography to business

Bentley University speaker will present on economic geography

An expert in foreign direct investment will give a talk at the University of Cincinnati on Thursday on ways economic geography can be applied to different majors in business schools.

Joel Deichmann, a professor of global studies at Bentley University in Massachusetts, will present “Economic Geography meets Business University” at 2 p.m. Thursday at 300 Braunstein Hall.

Deichmann is an economic geographer who has studied foreign direct investment, an investment in foreign companies that provides substantial control over those companies. Deichmann has examined foreign direct investment in a myriad of countries from Kosovo to Turkey to the six nations making up what was formerly Yugoslavia.

Deichmann will speak as part of the UC Department of Geography’s 2025 Howard A. Stafford Lecture in Economic Geography. His talk will provide an overview of the relevance of geography in nontraditional settings particularly of interest to majors such as finance, accounting, business and marketing offered by UC’s Lindner College of Business.
