Over 150 student fashion designs wowed the crowd as part of DAAPFASH25
DAAPFASH — the live fashion show by the University of Cincinnati's graduating fashion design students — is often called “the hottest ticket in town.”
Now in its 72nd year, the show was indeed fire; with over 900 attendees in the house on May 2 at MegaCorp Pavilion across the river from UC in Northern Kentucky.
This year's show featured the fashion collections of 35 of UC's fashion design students from the College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning (DAAP).
There were over 150 fashion creations on the runway, many which told a personal story with a nod to a designer’s heritage, hometown, personal trauma or a background in activities or the arts, says the show's director Laurie Wilson, associate director of student affairs and adjunct professor in DAAP's School of Design.
"They are not just beautiful creations, they are visual diaries from the hearts of these talented students," says Wilson.
One student story was that of Jodie Pierce who, prior to the show, was featured in a Spectrum News1 segement. Pierce's designs were highly influenced by her time on the UC track team; several of her garments incorporated sports memorabilia accents.
Pierce received the DAAPFASH25 director's choice award. Her collection opened the show but each collection wowed the audience and drew jubilant applause.
