UC students to craft cafe concept at Northumbria in Sodexo internship
Two University of Cincinnati students, Natalie Rubi and Curtis Schriner, have been selected to participate in the 2025 513 Culinary Group (Sodexo) Global Internship program in England. The students will travel to Northumbria University in Newcastle Upon Tyne, where they will engage in a four-week, hands-on international work experience designed to build global business skills and leadership development.
Throughout the program, the students will work with Sodexo’s Student Living team on a market research project focused on developing a new cafe concept at Trinity Square, one of Northumbria University’s student accommodations. The internship also includes site visits across England, including a research tour of Sodexo operations in London and a field trip to St. James' Park, home of Newcastle United Football Club. The experience will culminate in a formal presentation where students will deliver strategic recommendations covering brand development, marketing strategies, and operational planning.
The 513 Culinary Group (Sodexo) partnered with Anne Fugard, director of the University of Cincinnati’s study abroad program, and Michael Nuttle, co-op director at the Lindner College of Business, to ensure the program meets the criteria to qualify as a co-op experience.
The 513 Culinary Group Global Internship supports the University of Cincinnati’s commitment to offering students transformative global learning experiences that connect academic knowledge with real-world application.
