Chatterjee Global Lecture Series is set for Oct. 22 at DAAP
Join visual artist Ann Hamilton as she presents her lecture: "Recent Public Projects"
The University of Cincinnati College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP) is set to host the 10th annual Chatterjee Global Lecture Series on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2025.
The lecture series was established to encourage conversation and thinking between many disciplines in honor of the former DAAP Dean Jay Chatterjee. It features speakers from around the world who explore how art and design shape our perceptions of social and physical environments.
Guest speaker
The 2025 guest speaker, Ann Hamilton, is renowned worldwide for her large-scale multimedia installations, public projects, and performance collaborations. Her project environments create immersive experiences that engage with the architectural presence and social history of their sites. Her work’s multiple forms often explore the relationship between language structures and tactile materiality. Hamilton has also used her artistic skills to teach others. Since 2001, she has been a faculty member at Ohio State University, working in the Department of Art. One of her most significant contributions was her 2017 project for the MTA subway at the World Trade Center. The project, called “CHORUS,” is a marble mosaic that features text from the U.S. Declaration of Independence and the 1948 United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Spanning over 4,350 square feet, “CHOURS” was created through a close collaboration with Hamilton, typographic designer Hans Cogne, and the talented artisans at Mayer of Munich.
Hamilton has been the recipient of numerous accolades for her artistic work, including the National Medal of the Arts, the Heinz Award, the MacArthur Fellowship, the United States Artists Fellowship, and many more. She represented the United States in the 1991 Sao Paulo Biennale, the 1999 Venice Biennale, and has had exhibits featured all over the world. Notable projects of hers include the Park Avenue Armory (2013), The Guggenheim Museum, New York (2009), Contemporary Art Museum, Kumamoto, Japan (2006), and The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington D.C. (2003, 1991), among many others.
This lecture series can be attended virtually or in person at DAAP, starting at 5 p.m. in room 4400, 342 Clifton Court. Following the lecture, a reception will be held.
