Hoxworth Blood Center asks snow angels to help replenish blood supply

Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati, is calling on all eligible blood donors in the Cincinnati area to be snow angels as Hoxworth recovers from winter weather and closures. Each day, Hoxworth relies on 450 donors to meet the needs of more than 30 local hospitals.

Severe winter weather temporarily paused blood collection operations to ensure the safety of donors and staff. Consequentially, Hoxworth lost hundreds of blood products that would have been collected during those days. While conditions are improving, the need for blood never stops, and local hospital patients continue to rely on life-saving transfusions.

Once it is safe to do so, Hoxworth staff is ready to help donors save local lives. As the sole blood provider to all Cincinnati area hospitals, Hoxworth needs local lifesavers to roll up their sleeves for their neighbors.

We need our community to come together now to help rebuild our blood supply and make sure no one has to wait for life-saving care.

David Oh, MD Hoxworth Blood Center director

“The recent winter storms slowed donations, but patient needs never slow down,” says David Oh, MD, director of Hoxworth Blood Center. “We need our community to come together now to help rebuild our blood supply and make sure no one has to wait for life-saving care.”
