Former UC student earns Academy Award nomination

WLWT5 reports that Cincinnati native Hannah Beachler earned a second Academy Award

University of Cincinnati alum Hannah Beachler, who has deep roots in Cincinnati, is being highlighted by local news outlets for her latest achievement. She has earned her second Academy Award nomination for best production design for her work on the film “Sinners.”

On Jan. 22, a news segment aired on WLWT5, and Beachler was also noted in The Enquirer.

Beachler previously made history in 2019 when she won the Oscar for best production design for “Black Panther,” becoming the first Black woman to receive the honor.

Her career also includes production design work on films such as “Dark Waters,” directed by Todd Haynes, and “Miles Ahead,” directed by Don Cheadle.

Film Cincinnati also highlighted other Ohio-connected nominees this year, including Bryce Dessner, who earned a nomination for best original song for “Train Dreams,” and Jack Piatt, a native of Eaton, Ohio, who served as a producer on “The Singers,” nominated for best live action short film.

“We are incredibly proud to see Hannah recognized once again at the highest level,” said Kristen Schlotman, president and CEO of Film Cincinnati. “Her work continues to inspire filmmakers across our region and demonstrates the lasting impact of the talent that has built their careers here.”
