UC pharmacy alum teaches STEM to students

The Dayton Daily News highlighted the journey of University of Cincinnati James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy alumnus Doug Wurtzbacher, who now runs STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) after school programs and camps for students through his business iCode.

Wurtzbacher began working in his father's pharmacy when he was old enough, and after graduating from pharmacy school he's followed his passions for STEM in a variety of areas. He has worked as a researcher and instructor at the University of Tennessee, ran the family business for several years and worked in information technology.

In 2024, he found the perfect pairing of his passion for teaching STEM in iCode. The franchise business provides comprehensive education to students that encourages critical thinking, problem solving and grows confidence.

“I love it because we have this experimentation atmosphere,” Wurtzbacher said. “I’d say a small percentage of kids come in and take a class with us and may never go into engineering or science careers but just having this background and learning the valuable soft skills is huge.”
