“Events like this are extremely important because, in a globalized society like ours, it is essential for us as educators to prepare our students for the multifaceted and complex dynamics of todays’ the job market, where global competence has become a key asset,” said Juan Godoy-Penas, assistant professor of Spanish and undergraduate director for the Department of Romance and Arabic Languages and Literatures.

“The event is open to the public and anyone interested in learning more about their opportunities available at UC to develop their linguistic and cultural knowledge,” Godoy-Penas said.

“From current to incoming students, advisers, faculty, members of the community — everyone is welcome.”

A core part of the A&S mission is to prepare students to thrive in a globalized society.

In addition to enjoying food and games, those attending will be able to speak with faculty and former students, watch them present about the many opportunities available for students and explore new languages and cultures. Students can also get information regarding certificates, minors, majors, double-majors, international co-ops, study abroad programs and more.

“A core part of the A&S mission is to prepare students to thrive in a globalized society and, therefore, understanding how other people think, behave and speak is crucial for that,” Godoy Penas said.

“We hope this event becomes an annual tradition in which faculty, staff and students come together to celebrate the richness of a multicultural education and to learn more about how studying languages can help students succeed both personal and professionally.”

What if your next course wasn’t inside a classroom but across the globe? For Arts and Sciences students, UC’s Study Abroad Programs offer endless opportunities to immerse yourself in a new language, religion, culture, and more. “All UC study abroad programs are wonderful — students get to experience the world with a faculty expert and peers, which is always valuable,” said Laura Zanotti, Professor and Director in the College of Arts and Science's School of Environment and Sustainability. Whether you’re practicing your French in Quebec, walking through the Brazilian Amazon or exploring the ancient landscapes of Leinster, these programs are designed for students to connect what you learn in the classroom with real-world experiences.
