Cincinnati Business Achievement Awards celebrates past, present and future
Annual celebration renews college’s commitment to co-op, recognizes awardees
The Cincinnati Business Achievement Awards (CBAAs) recognized honorees at the Renaissance Cincinnati Downtown on Thursday, March 5, welcoming hundreds of members of the region’s business community.
Lindner Alumni Council chair Thuy Cao, Bus ’03, began the night, highlighting the history and impact of the event.
“For more than 40 years, this event has stood as the region’s premier celebration of business excellence and community service. Each year, it brings together Bearcats from across industries to honor exceptional alumni and friends whose accomplishments reflect the values, integrity, and entrepreneurial spirit of Lindner,” said Cao. “Just as important, this evening continues a proud tradition of giving back. Through the support of this event, we can invest directly in Lindner students by providing scholarships and financial assistance, helping prepare the next generation of business leaders.”
Cao also thanked the many contributors to Lindner’s success including faculty, staff, students, alumni, employer and community partners, and the event’s sponsors before turning over the mic to Lindner Dean Marianne Lewis.

Lindner dean Marianne Lewis, PhD, addresses attendees at the 2026 CBAAs.
Lewis extolled the power of co-op as the machine that fuels Lindner, bringing together students, faculty and staff, and alumni, employer and community partners to invigorate the region with top talent.
“Backed by more than 120 years of co-op excellence, we continue to push the envelope,” reflected Lewis. “Our co-op model fuses three elements: engaged experts (our tremendous faculty and staff), talented students (who value learning through theory and practice), and vital partners (corporate and community leaders). These examples prove how business problem solving accelerates impact and innovation.”
Lewis went on to highlight many exemplars of co-op in action at Lindner and UC, including:
- The faculty and staff experts who amplify cooperative learning in the classroom, such as with the new Master of Science in AI Management, and provide industry insights through their research to our trusted partners with projects such as those lead by the Center for Business Analytics.
- The students who routinely engage in real-world problem solving through course consulting projects with firms such as Cintas, TQL and Deloitte, and who take on the challenge of paid, professional experiences with organizations like P&G, Western & Southern and Fifth Third Bank.
- The employer and industry partners who help Lindner’s students and the college thrive through their dedication to volunteering their time, talent and treasure to fuel Lindner’s innovation and impact.
“We see every day how collaboration fuels progress — when industry, education, and community work together to shape the future of business,” reiterated Lewis.
Lewis then handed the microphone over to University of Cincinnati President Neville Pinto. Pinto highlighted the upward mobility of the university as it continues to expand, both in its physical footprint and its regional and national impact.
“As I look around the room, I see so many talented and dedicated leaders from the business community who partner with us. I cannot over-stress how valuable these collaborations are for our faculty and students. They help us prepare students exceptionally well for the workforce and for their roles as citizens and leaders in our society,” said Pinto.

Student awardees demonstrate power of community
The awards presentation then began with the celebration of the night’s student awardees. This included the Carl H. Lindner Outstanding Junior Scholarship Award and the Heart of William J. Keating Jr. Leadership Award.
Monique Mauler, Bus ’27, received the Carl H. Lindner Outstanding Junior Scholarship, the longest standing scholarship that bears the Lindner name. As a real estate major, Mauler embodies academic excellence, leadership and professional prowess. This is evident in her engagements with the UC Real Estate Center and the larger Cincinnati real estate community.
In addition to her extracurricular involvements, Mauler has completed several co-op experiences, including as a leasing and property management intern with UPMC Corporate Real Estate, and will continue her professional growth as a commercial real estate analyst intern with JPMorgan Chase this upcoming summer.

The Heart of William J. Keating Jr. Leadership Award was bestowed upon Colin Finnecy, Bus ’27. Finnecy approaches everything he does with a service mindset. His community involvement at Lindner and UC is extensive, including serving as vice president of pledge education for Delta Sigma Pi, supporting classmates as a PACE leader and representing the university and college as a ROAR tour guide and Lindner Ambassador. Inside of the classroom, Finnecy demonstrates academic excellence as a five-time Dean’s list recipient, University Honors Program participant and Cincinnatus Scholar.
Honorees showcase the pinnacle of achievement
The night then pivoted to highlighting the achievements of a recent alumnus. Chizi Igwe, Bus ’13, received the Outstanding Young Alumni Award, which honors a Lindner alumnus who demonstrates innovation, creativity and success in their careers and a commitment to involvement with Lindner and UC.
Igwe reflected on the path that brought her to this moment and the dreams she had as a student and how reality has far exceeded her expectations.
“Like many other students, I had grand ideas about what college is and who I would be as an adult. And I think the greatest gift was that I was wrong. It gave me a way to look at myself in a broader perspective. And I felt that what I remembered was that the version of my life that was going to be the best was the one that I wasn't imagining, and that was beyond what I could see.”

The Business Partnership Award was the next to be presented. Receiving the award on behalf of Great American Insurance Group were Co-chief Executive Officers Craig and Carl H. Lindner III. The duo offered insight into the storied partnerships between the college, Great American and the Lindner family and celebrated the continuation and strengthening of that relationship.
“Carl and I believe that strong partnerships are fundamental to the college's success,” remarked Craig Lindner. “At Great American and our parent company, American Financial Group, we're proud to collaborate with the college on many levels. In particular, we're excited about the unparalleled opportunities that co-op experiences provide for hands-on learning, real-world problem solving and meaningful career exploration.”
Following these remarks, the Distinguished Service Award was bestowed upon Adam Ante, Bus ’04, SVP and managing director at Paycor, a Paychex Company.
“Receiving the Distinguished Service Award is incredibly humbling. To even be mentioned in the same breath as some of the leaders in this room is more than I deserve,” said Ante. “I have been blessed with amazing professional opportunities, but the real blessing has been the ability to build a career right here in Cincinnati. This city is my home, and the University of Cincinnati is my foundation.”
John Berding, Bus '85, accepts the Carl H. Lindner Award for Outstanding Business Achievement.
The final and highest honor of the night, the Carl H. Lindner Award for Outstanding Business Achievement, was reserved for John Berding, Bus ’85, president of American Financial Group. The award celebrates a Lindner graduate who exemplifies success in their profession and field of business and showcases ample dedication to entrepreneurship and their community.
“As a first-generation college student, the University of Cincinnati opened my eyes to endless possibilities. My education at UC was exceptional in all regards, not only academically, but also in the way of personal growth,” reminisced Berding. “Although I was a commuter, I tried to take advantage of all the academic and professional opportunities that were available. And I would like to thank the entire UC community, from my classmates to professors for the outstanding foundational experience.”
Lewis then returned to the stage to send attendees off with a rallying cry to get involved with the Lindner community through mentorship, hiring and other forms of partnership.
