President Pinto announces new Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost
Dr. Rudolph Buchheit begins as UC's Chief Academic Officer June 1
President Neville Pinto shared the below message with the University of Cincinnati community this afternoon.
Dear Campus Community,
I am pleased to inform you that, pending approval by the UC Board of Trustees, Dr. Rudolph Buchheit has been selected as the University of Cincinnati’s next Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, effective June 1.
He comes to UC from the University of Kentucky, where he has served as Dean of the College of Engineering since 2018. In that role, he has led a comprehensive academic and administrative portfolio that includes faculty affairs, academic programs, research and graduate education, budget and facilities, as well as advancement and external partnerships.
Rudolph Buchheit, PhD, Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, begins June 1.
Prior to joining the University of Kentucky, Dr. Buchheit served as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Administration in the College of Engineering at The Ohio State University and earlier as chair of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. He is an internationally recognized scholar in corrosion metallurgy and electrochemistry, with a distinguished record of research, publication and professional service.
He earned his bachelor's degree in engineering science at Loyola University-Maryland. He also has a master's degree and a doctoral degree in materials science from the University of Virginia.
His selection follows a national search led by a dedicated search committee that was informed by broad campus engagement. I am grateful to the members of the search committee and to the many faculty, staff and students who participated in this vital process.
Dr. Buchheit brings a thoughtful, collaborative leadership style and a deep understanding of the opportunities and responsibilities of an R1 public research university. His experience strengthening academic programs, supporting faculty success and expanding research and external partnerships will help us continue to build momentum across the university.
Dr. Buchheit shared the following about his appointment:
"I am truly excited and deeply honored to accept the role of Provost at the University of Cincinnati. UC’s momentum, innovation and commitment to student success are unmistakable, and I look forward to partnering with this exceptional community to elevate academic excellence, expand opportunity and amplify our impact across Cincinnati and beyond."
As Provost, Dr. Buchheit will serve as UC’s chief academic officer, overseeing our colleges and academic operations while helping to advance our strategic priorities in teaching, research and student success.
Please join me in welcoming Dr. Rudolph Buchheit to the University of Cincinnati.
Sincerely,
Neville G. Pinto
President
