All-American student-athlete balances end of one chapter with the next starting line

UC track and field star in spotlight as she completed her undergraduate degree in just three years

Juliette Laracuente-Huebner, 21, a University of Cincinnati All-American student-athlete on the track and field team, graduated this spring with a perfect 4.0 GPA after completing her undergraduate degree in just three years.

Her accomplishments were recently featured on Spectrum News 1 Ohio.

Laracuente-Huebner has loved track since middle school.

“I went out for the track team and was just a sprinter and a hurdler for the first year,” said Laracuente-Huebner.

It quickly became her passion.

“I started trying high jump, and at my first meet I qualified for the middle school state meet, and it’s been history ever since then,” said Laracuente-Huebner.

After high school, she earned a scholarship at UC and now has the nation’s top heptathlon score. She credits her teammates and friends for their continued support.

“Being surrounded by people who support me and keep me in check a lot, my training partners make sure I don’t get a big head, and same with my friends back home, that definitely helps,” said Laracuente-Huebner.

She recently graduated from UC's College of Allied Health Sciences. Associate Professor Brian Earl, PhD, in the Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders, said what makes her stand out is her desire to learn and grow.

“I have really seen her discipline, many things including academics and just her attention to detail and her humility is really exceptional,” said Earl.

Laracuente-Huebner is grateful for Earl’s encouragement.

“He has just been very supportive and also very active with my track stuff, his always commenting on my Instagram stuff or responding or texting me, means a lot when a professor goes out of there way to show you support,” said Laracuente-Huebner.
