UC Serves gives back to Greater Cincinnati

Staff and faculty roll up their sleeves to make a difference

UC Serves brought together more than 425 staff and faculty volunteers Friday, May 15, for a day of giving back to the community.

Coordinated by the Division of Student Affairs’ Center for Community Engagement, the annual day of service offered more than 60 volunteer opportunities supporting local nonprofits through projects focused on beautification, food access, environmental efforts, education, and more.

Service projects were located across the region and appealed to a wide variety of interests. Gardening gurus put their skills to good use creating a garden at Spencer Center for Gifted and Exceptional Students and tending the UC Clermont Community Garden along with a community garden for the Bearcats Pantry and Resource Center at UC Fishwick.

Painters improved water tables for summer camp at Stepping Stones Inc.and helped to spruce up a propertyline fence at Cincinnati Toolbank along with a shed at Mattie’s House. Animal lovers offered their dog walking services at the League for Animal Welfare, while other volunteers stocked items at Meals on Wheels or read to schoolkids during Reading Day at Cincinnati Public Schools.

The event reflects the university’s ongoing commitment to community engagement and civic partnership. By collaborating with local nonprofits, volunteers contributed to projects that helped meet important community needs across the region. UC Serves has drawn participation from across the University of Cincinnati since 2014.
