Dr. Loren Wold

As a leading public R1 university, UC is committed to advancing discovery, creativity and scholarship that expands the boundaries of knowledge for our society. Dr. Wold will lead this mission, working across our campuses and disciplines to strengthen UC's impressive research enterprise.

He comes to UC from The Ohio State University, where he currently serves as Senior Associate Vice President for Research, in support of the university's $1.68 billion research enterprise. In this role, he helps to oversee 17 centers and institutes that together include over 200 staff and 1,500 faculty.

A member of the Ohio State faculty for the past two decades, Dr. Wold has held a range of academic and research leadership roles, including Associate Dean for Research Operations and Compliance in the College of Medicine, Director of Strategic Projects in the Office of the Chief Scientific Officer, Assistant Dean for Biological Health Research in the College of Nursing and Vice Chair of the Department of Physiology and Cell Biology. He is also the John G. and Jeanne Bonnet McCoy Chair in Cardiovascular Medicine and a tenured professor in the Department of Surgery at Ohio State's College of Medicine.

Throughout his career, Dr. Wold has demonstrated a strong record of advancing research excellence, strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration, supporting faculty and student success and building the infrastructure needed for a complex research university. His leadership accomplishments include contributing to year-over-year growth in research expenditures, expanding grant mentoring activities across campus, enhancing faculty compliance processes and supporting the launch of new research initiatives, along with investment in artificial intelligence infrastructure.

Dr. Wold is an internationally recognized scholar in cardiovascular physiology and environmental health, with research focused on cardiopulmonary disease, environmental exposures and cardiovascular function. He is a Fellow of the American Heart Association and the American Physiological Society, and he has held major national leadership and editorial roles, including service as the current Editor-in-Chief of The FASEB Journal.

He earned a bachelor's degree in biology and psychology from Boston University and master's and doctoral degrees in pharmacology, physiology and therapeutics from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences.

His selection follows a national search that was informed by broad engagement across our campuses and academic disciplines. I am grateful to the search committee, led by Dr. Ryan Hays, Executive Vice President and Chief Innovation & Strategy Officer, for their thoughtful and dedicated work throughout this important process. I also thank the many faculty, staff and students who participated and helped identify a dynamic leader who will guide and inspire our research community.

Dr. Wold shared the following about his appointment:

"I am thrilled to join the University of Cincinnati as Vice President for Research and look forward to working alongside its outstanding students, faculty and staff. As a faculty member at The Ohio State University, I have valued many opportunities to visit UC for meetings and invited lectures and have long regarded UC as a valued and collaborative partner. The university's 'Next Lives Here' strategic direction strongly aligns with a bold and forward-looking research mission where research innovation lives here. I look forward to getting to know the campus community and serving as a strong advocate for research and creative excellence."

Please join me in welcoming Dr. Loren Wold to the University of Cincinnati.

Sincerely,

Neville G. Pinto
President
