Saturday: UC Launches Third-Annual Partnership With Cincinnati Habitat For Humanity

UC will formally kick off its third university-wide partnership with Cincinnati Habitat for Humanity at a special dedication at

11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24,

at the construction site located at 3552 Haven St. in Avondale in Uptown.

A group of first-year students has been working at the site for the past two weeks, getting an early start on the project as part of their service-learning Honors Scholars English 101 class.

The construction project will result in a new home for Megan O’Malley and her daughter, Shamia, who just started kindergarten at Sands Montessori School. To qualify as a partner for the home, Megan agreed to invest 500 hours of “sweat equity labor” into the construction, which will take place on Saturdays from fall through spring quarter. She will purchase the home with a 20-year interest-free mortgage payable to Cincinnati Habitat for Humanity.

UC commits to the funding to buy the construction materials. This year’s building partnership is sponsored by Fifth Third Bank and the Messer Construction Company, with support from University Dining Services.
