FRIDAY/SATURDAY: UC Research and Innovation to Be 'Showcased'

A robot that performs surgery, design concepts for the visionary Cadillac Sixteen car, student-designed furniture making its way onto the national market, and a mannequin that breathes and responds to medical treatment.

These are just a few of the more than 350 innovative projects that will be on display during the University of Cincinnati’s (UC) Showcase 2006.

This free event, aimed at showcasing UC’s transformational impact through posters, demonstrations, exhibits and panel discussions, happens Friday, April 21, in Tangeman University Center (TUC) on UC’s Uptown campus.

Local business leaders and members of the community are encouraged to attend to learn more about the scholarly and creative works, research excellence and community service activities of UC’s faculty and students. Free parking will be available in the CCM and Calhoun parking garages.

“UC has a lot to celebrate,” says UC president Nancy Zimpher, PhD. “The university plays a tremendous role in creating a better future for us all. We hope Showcase 2006 inspires new partnerships and collaborations important to the future of our region.”

Showcase 2006 begins Friday at 8:15 a.m. with opening remarks from President Zimpher. A series of panel discussions led by regional and national leaders on workforce development, ethics, technology, community transformation and product innovation will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Ed Barlow, president of Creating the Future, will deliver a keynote address on Cincinnati’s future at 12:15 p.m.

The entire TUC will be filled with posters, displays and live demos, and faculty and students will be on hand to discuss their work. Exhibits will remain on display Saturday, April 22, for prospective students to browse.
