McMicken Student Winners
Several of the college's students have been awarded recognition for their work in various areas. The administration, faculty, and staff extend congratulations to the following for their accomplishments.
Giovanni Mion has been selected to receive the University of Cincinnati Graduate Assistant Excellence in Teaching Award. He was recognized at the Graduate Student Awards Ceremony.
Jayme Csonka won the People's Choice award in the 2006 UC International Photo Contest. Her winning photograph of the Spiti Pass Gompa was taken during a Department of Geology field trip to India. Beginning in the fall, she will also act as Learning Community leader for her department.
Sarah Laxton was awarded a grant from the Geological Society of America and from the American Alpine Club in support of her research.
Devin Buick, Byron Adams, and Colby Smith received grants from the Geological Society of America to fund their research.
Tony Kramer was awarded a two-year fellowship from Project STEP (Science and Technology Enhancement Program), an NSF-sponsored program that is administered by the Colleges of Engineering and Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services. Its goal is to provide opportunities for graduate students with teaching talent to serve as scientific resources in K-12 settings for approximately 10 hours per week during the academic year.
Derek Mize, who will graduate with an MA from the Women's Studies Department, was awarded a Wal-Mart Point Scholarship. The Point Scholarship recognizes outstanding lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender students. Mize will use the scholarship to attend UC's College of Law.
